1.) It snowed here last night!! Which was, unfortunately, painfully cold for my feet (I have yet to find a succesful method / combination to keep my feet warm here) but simultaneously, it made everything absolutely gorgeous!!! Sooooooooooooo pretty!! Hello pristine white snow! You make me happy, despite hurting my feet. =) This snow is significant also because it is the first Scottish snow that has come to me, rather than me climbing up a mountain to find it. Hoorah!
The view from my window this morning!!
2.) My tasks for today included
- shoveling the walkways and putting some gravel down
- trimming willow trees that are being weaved to form beautiful arches (I love using loppers! Especially ratcheting ones - they make me feel like super woman!)
- hoeing and raking in a polytunnel to prep the ground for new lettuce plants (hooray!!! There are still a few things to plant, even in December!!)
- planting some baby landcress from a tray (correction from my previous claim that I'd planted watercress, I learned the next day that it is actually landcress)
- collecting eggs from the hen houses (they are so cool! very nice digs for these ladies. Talk about free range . . .) giving them water and food, then cleaning and grading the eggs. There is an AWESOME machine that grades the eggs based on their weight and a counter-balance, and I had good fun using it!
The hen houses and a bit of the hen run.
One of the views. Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!1 Gorgeous!! =)
3.) At the end of the day, I got to do my grocery shopping!! (I have never been so excited to do my grocery shopping in my entire life). My living accomodation here is an apartment over an organic food shop, and I can do all of my grocery shopping here, and it is BEAUTIFUL!! It is my heaven, re-defined (from my first definition of heaven at Frank and Azu's and their walk-in fridge filled with organic produce). This has, not only produce, but also organice yogurts, milk, eggs (that I collected from the hen house just an hour earlier!) tofu, meats, vinegars, oils, sauces, nuts, grains, etc. . . .. SO much goodness! I am thrilled! It's like my previous heaven on steroids! =) I am all ready to have a scrumptious dinner tonight! Oh, and have I mentioned how ecstatic I am to be cooking for myself again? Off the charts!!!
4.) Yesterday night when I arrived, I had dinner with a few of the other people working here, (they cooked a delightful meal, and invited me to join) and we then had a bonfire out in the fields. Fabulous! A fantastic way to start at a new WWOOF gig!
5.) Tonight I am going to join a few of the other staff here for a yoga class! HOORAY!
So many things to be excited about, I think I might burst.
I was quite sad to leave my last WWOOF gig (details on that to come shortly . . . that is my goal!) because the people there were all splendid (10 WWOOFers for my last 10 days or so), and I do already miss them, but I am now confident that leaving was the right decision (it's hard to leave a good thing! Sigh, Seattle, I miss you too!!!) and very happy that I am here. Off to get ready for yoga class now!
Fantastic!
ReplyDeleteWhere about are you in Scotland now?
If you figure out a warm toe solution, definitely share! I usually get by well enough with wool socks and shoes that don't let the wind/damp through. And wiggling my toes a bit.
